IBBS Debuts New Bandwidth Management and Birth Certificate Tools at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver

BBX 4.7 Features Market-Leading Bandwidth Management Policy Enforcement Capabilities

Denver, CO – October 28, 2009 — Today from the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Integrated Broadband Services (IBBS), a leading provider of OSS software and network services supporting more than 230 broadband and cable operators worldwide, introduced version 4.7 of its award-winning Broadband Explorer (BBX) diagnostics and provisioning software, including a bandwidth management solution supporting net neutrality.

According to IBBS Vice President of Product Management, Doug Johnson, “To maximize profit margins while maintaining optimum user satisfaction, broadband and cable operators need powerful network tools to evaluate and assess network congestion and peak usage. The advanced functionality inherent in BBX 4.7 enables these service providers to implement cost-effective, yet fair bandwidth management policies that are both easy to enforce and communicate to subscribers, improving the overall subscriber experience.”

“IBBS takes great pride in being at the industry’s forefront and having its finger on the pulse of what cable operators need. BBX 4.7 is the next generation of technology that enables operators to not only compete, but to win, in today’s hyper-competitive marketplace.” BBX 4.7 builds upon BBX 4.6, which introduced Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) management, rule based policy exception notifications, Bandwidth Xcelerator “power burst” technology, and usage billing data.

BBX 4.7 Features & Functionality:

  • Fair-Use Bandwidth Management - This feature allows the operator to manage high bandwidth users without penalizing the entire subscriber base.  Specifically, it provides an application-agnostic approach to enforce bandwidth quotas and address IP traffic congestion to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Forced Redirect – This feature enables operators to interact with subscribers by redirecting them to a captive user portal.  Forced Redirect can be used to communicate acceptance of usage policies, as well as to provide notifications when they have exceed the defined policies.
  • Birth Certificates – This tool enables operators to capture the baseline threshold levels of installed devices, creating enforceable QoS levels and greater accountability. With reporting features to identify installation trends and performance variances, operators can ensure that devices are installed successfully, reducing costly truck rolls, and certificates can be re-set at any given point for previously-installed subscribers to provide a benchmark from which to begin tracking future performance levels.
